Glanbia has announced that it will build a new €140 million cheesemaking facility in Co. Kilkenny creating 180 jobs in the process.
The new facility, will be constructed by the Kilkenny-based food giant in partnership with a Dutch dairy partner, Royal A-ware, and is expected to be operational in 2022. The facility will be built in Belview and will make continental cheeses such as Edam and Gouda for the global market. The new plant will be able to handle 450 million litres of milk per year. This week Kilkenny County Council gave the go ahead for the massive new facility, which will create 80 full-time jobs upon completion and 100 more during the construction phase. It will be located beside Glanbia’s recently constructed €150 million Ingredients Processing Facility. The development is the latest in a series of significant investments by Glanbia and is aimed at future proofing the company. Kilkenny County Council has also approved Glanbia’s plans to substantially expand its research and development centre in Ballyragget.
