Kilkenny Granted a World Crafts Council Craft City and Region

Kilkenny has been granted Craft City and Region status by the World Crafts Council, it’s only the fourth place in Europe to be awarded so.

This is a hugely important honour which will push the area to the forefront of the crafts and design industry worldwide.

The application was prepared by the Made in Kilkenny craft collective before being presided upon by judges from the European branch of the world craft body.

“It’s a wonderful, wonderful designation. We’re so honoured to achieve this.”

Made in Kilkenny chairperson Catherine Conroy said.

Kilkenny has long had the reputation for being a centre of creativity, and the Made in Kilkenny collective has actively contributed to this perception over the last decade and worked so hard to achieve so.

Made in Kilkenny was founded in 2009 by a group of craftspeople in Kilkenny who came together to support each other and also to promote the area as a major craft hotspot. Members of Made in Kilkenny range across people working in  pottery, weaving, ceramics, jewellery, and wood-turning.
