Carlow company, Codd Mushrooms, has gained Origin Green Gold Membership.

Following remarkable annual performance in its environmental measures, a Carlow mushroom company has gained Origin Green Gold Membership.

At a ceremony hosted by Bord Bia and Origin Green, Codd Mushrooms was granted Origin Green Gold Membership.

In 2020, Origin Green debuted Gold Membership, which recognizes members who perform very well in terms of sustainability. The new plan has prompted Irish corporations to focus even more on environmental challenges.

A company must demonstrate exceptional annual performance in areas such as raw material procurement, water and energy efficiency, waste reduction, packaging, and social sustainability to achieve Origin Green Gold Membership. The Origin Green Gold Members of this year excelled in the areas of energy, packaging, and community participation the most.

The Codd Family have been growing the finest quality mushrooms from their farm located in Tullow, Co. Carlow since 1989. Starting from a small growing shed, they have progressed to a modern, purpose built mushroom production and packing facility.

They are the largest supplier of mushrooms into the Irish Market supplying the major retailers and food service sector. They strive to be one of the most innovative and environmentally friendly mushroom production facilities in Europe.

Back in 1989 Codd Mushrooms started with just 2 staff, a small growing shed and loads of enthusiasm, now there are 250 staff and still growing.

Codd Mushrooms are committed to increasing the switch to green energy by utilising ther wind turbine (which produces 13% of their energy) and wood pellet boiler, and their commitment to sustainability through Origin Green.

Their growing rooms produce 5,000 TONNES of mushrooms per year!
