Hardik Shah
Senior Manager Formulation R&D – Teva Pharmaceuticals Ireland
How have you come to live in Ireland South East?
The main motivation to be here was to be a part of an innovative team involved in developing inhalation products. It’s great to be a part of very successful R&D team in Teva Pharmaceutical Ireland located in Ireland South East; the transition wasn’t difficult especially as it is the sunniest part of the country!
What do you like best about Ireland South East?
It’s the complete package containing cultural aspects, a great sense of community, schools, plus a range of outside and indoor activities.
“I have my family and friends here and like they say “home is where the heart is”.”
Tell us about your career?
I have been working in the pharmaceutical industry for over 13 years after completing my doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences from Glasgow University, Scotland. I got an opportunity to move to Ireland while working with another pharmaceutical company based in Dublin where I specialised in the formulation and process development of solid and liquid dosage forms. In Waterford, as part of very versatile R&D team, I have been developing inhalation products for the treatment of Asthma and COPD.
What are the benefits of living in Ireland South East?
It is very accessible and well connected to the international airports via the motorway network; Dublin is only 2 hours away. The people are very friendly and access to nature, particularly the Waterford Greenway, which is on our door step and stretching to 46 kms, is a real bonus. It has multiple mountain ranges for very scenic walks/hikes with the Comeragh range being an accessible and scenic spot.
Can you tell us a secret about Ireland South East or a favourite place that people might not know?
Coumshingaun loop walk leading to the lake on the top of the mountain. This is just breath taking. Completing this trail for any number of times is never enough
What’s the main difference between living and working in the SE as opposed to where you lived previously?
I lived in Dublin for many years before moving to ISE. Dublin is great for having access to everything including theatres, restaurants, pubs, shopping malls and Dublin/Wicklow mountain ranges. However, it is very busy commuting either for work or leisure. In contrast, the majority of the same activities are available in Ireland South East, promoting fantastic/valuable time with the family. And if you need to go to Dublin it is always within two hours distance from here.
