Cartoon Saloon has been nominated for an Academy Award for its acclaimed ‘Wolfwalkers’
Ireland South East and Kilkenny based Cartoon Saloon has been nominated for an Academy Award for its acclaimed ‘Wolfwalkers’ in the best Animated Feature Film category.
The movie was co-directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart and the screenplay was written by Will Collins. Cartoon Saloon were also nominated in the Golden Globe awards last month.
This is their fifth time to be nominated at the prestigious Academy Awards, having previously been a part of the event with their movies ‘The Secret of Kells’ and ‘Song of the Sea’.
The animation centres on a young apprentice hunter and her father as they journey to Ireland to help wipe out the last wolf pack. But everything changes when she befriends a free-spirited girl from a mysterious tribe rumoured to transform into wolves by night.
They were congratulated by Désirée Finnegan, Chief Executive, Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland, who said, “Wolfwalkers is a triumph of creative collaboration and Irish storytelling, and we are exceptionally proud to have supported the film. The consistent and continued success of Cartoon Saloon’s work is testament to Ireland’s thriving animation industry, and indicative of the creative talent working tirelessly to produce powerfully engaging stories for audiences, both at home and around the world.”
They will have the whole region shouting for them to get over the line at the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, April 25.
