South East Technology Gateways awarded funding for new state-of-the-art equipment
South East Technology Gateways have been awarded funding under the Enterprise Ireland Capital Equipment Call.
The funding that Design+ Gateway was awarded will enable IT Carlow to acquire an advanced 3D printer whose printed parts mimic injection moulded components, a valuable electronics test bench equipment to progress electronic systems and prototypes and an environmental scanning electron microscopy with a field emission gun. The equipment will facilitate academic research projects as well as commercial projects with businesses who are engaging in research and development to improve a process or develop a prototype.
PMBRC has been awarded funding for three items: 1. A Dynamic Vapour Sorption System (DVS), 2. A Sputter Coating System, and 3. A Cell Culture Suite (consisting of a biosafety cabinet with a CO2 incubator and a fluorescence microscope). The largest of these items is the DVS System which is used to study the uptake of moisture and solvent vapours in materials. This is particularly important in the pharma and food sectors where formulations can absorb water from the atmosphere, which in turn can change material properties or cause food spoilage.
The funding acquired by the SEAM Research Centre will be used to purchase three key pieces of equipment infrastructure. These include an X-Ray Fluoroscope (XRF), Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) and White Light Interferometry (WLI).
The TSSG Technology Gateway at Walton Institute acquired funding to assist with research and development and will provide industry access to two new exciting areas. One new testbed, a ‘Quantum Security Testbed’ and a Portable RF Spectrum Monitor will be housed anew at the Walton Institute data centre and will be fully accessible to industry for whatever they need.
