Curracloe in Co. Wexford wins ‘Ireland’s Best Beach’ for 2022
It’s official, Ireland’s best beach has been voted by Irish Independent readers to be Curracloe in Co. Wexford. The Irish Independent’s Reader Travel Awards have just been announced and you can read the full results here.
Irish Independent readers described the beach as “beautiful”, “clean”, and with “miles and miles of sand”. People identified the long list of positives the beach has as it stretches out over 10km: it is close to Wexford, safe for swimming, has a Blue Flag, a big car park and decent amenities.
It’s not the first time Curracloe has won the Reader Travel Awards for best beach and it is also noted to be just as pleasant to visit in winter as in summer.
As well as being an outstanding place to visit the beach is also famous as being the location where the spectacular opening scenes from Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan were filmed in 1998. Tom Hanks and around 400 crew and 1000 Irish Reserve Army members recorded the explosive start to that movie at Curracloe depicting the D-Day landings at Normandy.
