Private developer behind Belfast’s Titanic Quarter now confirmed for €550m Waterford North Quays
The private developer for the Waterford North Quays project has now been confirmed and it is Harcourt Developments who were previously behind both the regeneration of the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast as the Titanic Quarter (pictured above) and the redevelopment of the Stanley Dock in Liverpool.
The news of the appointment of the private developer for this project follows yesterday’s announcement of €170 million in funding from the Government for the public works associated with creating a new transport hub and sustainable transport bridge.
Waterford City and County Council chief executive Michael Walsh told elected councillors at a meeting yesterday evening that Harcourt has a significant track record in regenerating waterfront sites, including the Titanic Quarter in Belfast and Stanley Dock regeneration in Liverpool.
He added:
“Today’s announcement is very much welcomed by Waterford City and County Council. It underpins the Government’s commitment to one of the biggest investments ever in the South East.
“The transformative effects of this investment are guaranteed to bring significant benefits to the region and help make Waterford a better place to live, work and invest in.”
The project was described yesterday by Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien as the
“largest urban regeneration project in the country”.
Offices, residential and retail units are in the plans, which include a 4-star hotel and visitor’s centre.
The Government’s Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) is providing investment of €100.6m and the National Transport Authority is providing investment of €70m for the site, which was designated a Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) by the Government in 2016.
The overall level of estimated public infrastructure investment is €207m, with Waterford Council and Kilkenny County Council both contributing to the project. Private sector investment in the region of €350m of is expected.
