BD Celebrates 30 Years of innovation and shared prosperity in Enniscorthy

October 6, 2026/in Engineering, Events, Infrastructure, Investment, Life science, News

BD, a leading global medical technology company, is celebrating 30 years of innovation and shared prosperity at its manufacturing facility in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. The milestone marks three decades of manufacturing excellence, community partnership and investment in the region’s future.

An integral hub of the community’s economic development, BD Enniscorthy employs more than 350 people and manufactures catheters and balloons used by interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons in angioplasty procedures, supporting treatment across peripheral and coronary arteries. The Enniscorthy team plays a key role in Ireland’s South East and in the country’s wider medical technology ecosystem.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD said:

“I am very pleased to join BD here in Enniscorthy on today’s 30th anniversary. For 30 years, the company has been part of the economic fabric of Co. Wexford, supporting skilled careers, local ambition and Ireland’s reputation as a place where world-class companies can grow over the long term. I congratulate BD and its employees on this milestone and wish the team continued success for the decades ahead.”

Minister for Enterprise Tourism and Employment Peter Burke TD said:

“BD’s anniversary in Enniscorthy is a reminder of the importance of long-term FDI to Ireland’s national enterprise base. BD’s continued investment in this facility, underlines the strategic role of the site within the company’s global operations and reflects the confidence that BD continues to place in Ireland as a location for advanced manufacturing, innovation and talent.”

Gerard Reynolds, Director of Enniscorthy Operations at BD, said:

“BD Enniscorthy is proud to celebrate its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of innovation, growth and commitment to improving and saving lives around the world. Since opening in 1996, the site’s success has been built on the dedication, resilience and talent of its people.
From a small operation employing 13 associates in 1996, BD Enniscorthy has grown into a thriving manufacturing facility employing more than 350 people whose focus on safety and quality in everything they do supply innovative medical technologies to healthcare providers and patients in over 60 countries worldwide.
Throughout its journey, the site has grown alongside the local community, supporting charitable initiatives, working closely with local schools and suppliers, creating highly skilled jobs, and making a significant contribution to the economic development of the South East region and Ireland as a whole.
As we celebrate this important milestone, we thank our employees, their families, our customers and our community partners for being part of our success. We look forward to building on this proud legacy as we continue to advance healthcare and improve outcomes for patients for many years to come.”

The anniversary reflects BD’s long-standing commitment to Enniscorthy and to Ireland as a location for advanced manufacturing, innovation and talent. BD first established operations in Ireland in 1964 and today operates across multiple locations, with teams working across manufacturing, research and development, engineering, quality and business support functions.

Rachel Shelly, Global Head of Life Sciences at IDA Ireland, said:

“BD’s 30-year presence in Enniscorthy is an exemplar of the long-term value that global companies create in regional locations across Ireland. Over three decades, the team here has built specialist manufacturing capability, supported high-quality employment and contributed to the strength of Ireland’s internationally recognised medtech sector. IDA Ireland is proud to support BD and I wish the Enniscorthy team continued success as they mark this important milestone.”
