Over €1.8m has been allocated to the South East for outdoor amenities
The major investment, under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), will see the development of 66 natural amenities and support outdoor pursuits across the country such as hiking, mountaineering, kayaking, swimming and cycling.
The investment – a key part of Our Rural Future – will support rural economies and make rural Ireland a more attractive destination for adventure tourism.
The projects chosen for investment include walking and cycling trails, cliffways, beaches, lakes, rivers, bogs, greenways, blueways and bridleways.
The main focus of the funding is on developing adventure tourism activities such as hiking, mountaineering, kayaking, swimming and cycling.
Carlow
Clashganny – Amenity improvements at Clashganny and the completion of a looped walk to and from Clashganny Viewing Point.
Kilkenny
Trail enhancement of two established woodland walking trails located in the Castlecomer Discovery Park and the provision of age friendly accessible amenity spaces and interpretation signage.
Upgrade of woodland and garden trails in Woodstock Estate to improve accessibility for all.
Tipperary
Development of the Suir Blueway to link with existing sections of the route resulting in a continuous 3m wide surface for over 3km.
Access upgrade between the Suir Blueway and Ardfinnan village including appropriate planting and seating on the banks of the River Suir.
Provision of an off-road walking/cycling pathway along the River Suir.
Waterford
Enhancement works to include surfacing and ancillary infrastructure.
Installation of visitor footfall counters at trails and other outdoor recreation amenities in Co. Waterford.
Wexford
Construction of a 600m loop around the Urrin River stepped bridge and resurface of entire trail.
To enhance facilities, improve signage and provide safe access for all walkers.
Provision of infrastructure to create an 11km blueway along the Corock River to Wellingtonbridge village on to Foulksmills village.
