Rosslare Europort announces planning application underway to become Ireland’s largest Offshore Renewable Energy port
Rosslare Europort is set to undergo a transformative expansion, positioning itself as Ireland’s largest offshore renewable energy port and a critical enabler of the country’s transition to green energy.
The development, one of the largest civil construction projects in Ireland, is expected to generate up to 2,000 jobs during and after construction. More than €40 million has already been invested with local contractors, underlining the project’s immediate economic impact and long-term potential for the region.
Glenn Carr, Director of Commercial Business Units at Rosslare Europort, said:
This will position Rosslare as a hub for offshore energy, just as Dublin became a centre for financial services. It’s not just about short-term works — it’s about creating sustainable, long-term employment and securing Ireland’s energy future.
The expansion plans include:
-
Deepening of the harbour
-
Construction of two new major berths
-
Development of over 20 hectares of reclaimed land
The port will lodge its planning application in the coming weeks, with construction expected to commence within 12 months, subject to approval. The new facilities are projected to be operational by 2028, ready to support offshore renewable energy deployment from 2029 onwards.
Carr added,
This will be the largest offshore renewable energy port development in the history of the country
Rosslare Europort’s expansion represents a milestone in Ireland’s renewable energy journey, driving economic growth, strengthening energy security, and ensuring the South East plays a central role in the nation’s green transition.
