Major job growth is on the way as a TV and film production company puts plans into action in Tipperary.
The Silver Rock Studios application is for a large production unit on the old Rorer pharmaceutical company site.
The €30 million project, which is set to begin later in 2021, will create 250 construction jobs as well as around 250 creative industry jobs, catapulting Nenagh into becoming a key part of the existing film and TV hub. Planning permission has now been granted for the first phase.
The company had already scheduled outdoor location shoots in the area for September gone, and will soon announce a major animation film that will be made in Nenagh.
“Nenagh is the perfect setting for Silver Rock Studios due to its central location in Ireland, its excellent motorway infrastructure, proximity to Lough Derg, and access to Shannon Airport. The diverse range of idyllic green landscapes and historical features for filming locations along with the warmth and reception received from the people of Nenagh underpinned our decision,” said Andy Egan, president and founder of Silver Rock Studios and who has family connections to North Tipperary.
Silver Rock Studios intends to begin construction on phase one and master plan for future expansion, with additional investment and jobs to be created over the next three years.
The first phase of the development is expected to be completed by the summer of 2022. It will have 70,000 square feet of sound stages as well as over 90,000 square feet of workshops, production support, and training facilities.
The facility will also include dedicated support space for the industry’s specialized creative suppliers.
Silver Rock Studios will be a Nearly Net-Zero (nZeb) CarbonEnergy Building, in keeping with Nenagh’s progressive urban regeneration plans.
Tipperary was selected for its idyllic green landscapes and convenient central location in Ireland. The studio site is fully secure and in close proximity to excellent daily air connections from two international airports (30mins & 90mins) as well as an excellent road network that links four Irish cities within ninety minutes, to facilitate any production travelling further within a working day for locations.
